unique stainless steel body over a glass-reinforced plastic
monocoque underbody. This example showcases this original design
magnificently. The gull wing doors are
unmistakable and a major part of the DeLorean design, allowing
easier entrance and exits. Needless to say, the DeLorean
became an American & Pop-Culture classic partially thanks to its
recurring role in the Back to the Future movies series. We have two
full boxes of unopened Topps Back to the Future II card packs &
bubble gum included. We also have this jazzy original custom car
cover for this DeLorean. Great Scott! Fly High or Fly
Low. Many of our photos were taken at the historic Dallas Love Field
Frontiers of Flight museum, located only minutes from our showroom. Unfortulately noot optioned with
a flux capacitor, this example features the original fuel-injected
V6. This European powerplant was stiffled with U.S. factory
emissions, though it was rated at 170 horsepower initially. John
DeLorean was a fan of the mid-engine design and incorporated this
into the DMC. The engine compartment is clean and detailed,
displaying the original factory decals and components throughout. The body is brushed 304SS
stainless steel with a painted nose and rear clip. All of the
DeLoreans left the factory this way with exception of three 24K
gold-plated examples. The optional grey leather
interior is in exceptional condition. Leather seats/trim ; air
conditioning ; an AM/FM stereo ; power windows ; power locks, and
mirrors; intermittent wipers ; and an electric defogger were all
standard options. This car is also equipped with the optional
automatic transmission. The DeLorean DMC-12's interior
could be original in black or grey. This example sports its original
leather, showing some age but little wear. The gauges are functional and
clear. The 1981 DeLoreans came standard
with air conditioning, heat, and a Craig radio. This car is also
optioned with the automatic transmission. The heavy gullwing doors are
supported by cyrogenically preset torsion bars and gas-charged
struts. A very common misconception is the gullwing doors require
more room to open, such as in a crowded parking lot. In reality,
they require far less clearance than side-hinge doors. Similar in design to the
Lamborghini Countach, the DMC-12 doors feature small cut-out windows
because full size windows would not be fully retractable within the
short door panels. The underbody and suspension of
the DeLrean is based on the Lotus Esprit with a 4-wheel independent
suspension, coil-springs, and telescopic shock absorbers. The front
suspension utilizes double wishbones and the rear is a multi-link
setup. The intial design was quite good. Lotus is known for their
handling prowess. The U.S. regulations required modificatios to the
suspension to raise the ride height a bit. Lowering springs are
commonly used to increase the handling ability of the DeLrean. This
example retains its original suspension and underbody in excellent
condition. This is a dry climate example and it shows. The original manufacturers vin
and data plate are in place. We have much of the original
paperwork, books, and even the VHS cassette tape detailed the
DeLorean dream.
